Sanae Tanaka has studied the art of Japanese lacquer under Yukifumi Yokoyama since 1997. She established Tomoru Studio in 2008 with her husband Komei, a wood carver. In 2018, Sanae’s works were exhibited in Hong Kong.

Schedule
9:00
Gather at the studio. Begin the morning with a friendly chat with the master artisan and other lacquer artists.
9:15
Mix lacquer and pigment and let it thicken. This process influences the quality of the final product.
10:30
Take a break with a cup of tea; get ready for the second half.
11:00
Mask the wood part of the chopsticks and design the lacquered section.
11:45
Apply lacquer to the chopsticks and dry in the urushiburo “bathtub.”
12:00
Workshop finished.
*The finished chopsticks will be shipped directly to your home after drying for about 2 weeks.
*An additional fee will be charged for international shipping.

Notice
- Reservation is required no later than 10 days in advance.
- Our workshop is exclusive for BnC guest.
- If the lacquer comes in contact with your skin, you may experience some irritation. Please take particular care if you have sensitive skin.
- Skin may be more easily irritated by the lacquer in summer months, so the workshop may be suspended under certain circumstances during this period.
- The workshop takes place in the artisan’s workshop. For safety reasons, children under 10 years of age are not allowed to visit the workshop, as knives and sensitive lacquer are within reach.
